You want a cheaper chain-drive first pedal bike.
The Darwin II swaps a traditional chain for a belt-drive system — no grease, less maintenance. Aluminum frame, fork, handlebar, seatpost, and wheels, with V-brakes and a steering limiter. The 16" size fits ages 5–9 (up to 45 kg), the 20" size fits ages 6–12 (up to 55 kg).
No grease means no oily marks on clothes and legs, and less maintenance overall — a real practical upgrade for a bike that's going to get ridden hard and maintained rarely, which describes most kids' bikes.
